Why Choose EcoFlow Delta 2? – This is the Ecoflow Delta 2, and if you’re in the market for a portable power station, I want to go over 5 reasons why you might consider getting one. Before I get into the first reason if you aren’t familiar with what this thing is? It’s a portable battery unit that has DC and AC outputs, and it’s an upgrade from the original Delta. And with the new upgrades, they gave this thing. It’s one of my top recommendations for most people’s situations. So, here are the main reasons why?
Why Choose EcoFlow Delta 2?
The Reasons Why Choose EcoFlow Delta 2
1. Backup Power
There are many small battery units out there, and they’re great for portability, but they usually can’t power big appliances. But Delta II can. On the back, there are six AC outlets, and across all of these Outlets. This thing can provide 1800 watts of continuous power.
So, when you need backup power, this would have no problem running things, like a microwave, electric griddle, coffee maker, or even a full-size refrigerator. And across these ports, it has a surge power up to 2,700 watts, and that number is important because it can provide that burst of energy needed to start things that have a compressor in them like a refrigerator, a chest freezer, and a small air conditioner.
Basically, anything that needs that burst of energy to get started, but then runs at a lower wattage. So, to illustrate with the battery at a hundred percent, and this battery has 1 kWh of storage, I ran our full-size refrigerator while our family of seven was using it. And without Trying to minimize opening the fridge, or freezer doors, it kept the fridge running for 7 hours and 11 minutes.
Since we’re talking battery backup, there are two other features I want to point out that the Delta II can do:
- It has AC pass-through, What that means here is, that I have the grid plugged in, this goes to the wall outlet, and I have this laptop running off of this AC output. So, what’s happening is, that the AC is coming in, and it’s being passed right through to these AC Outlets. It’s not drawing from the batteries.
- And the other feature is the fast switch-over speed from the grid to the battery. So, I have a laptop here to show you how quickly the switchover is from the grid to the battery power. And this laptop has no battery inside of it. It’s running completely off of this AC plug. So, watch what happens when I pull this out. It was so fast to switch the battery power and run the inverter. There wasn’t even a flicker on that screen.
This feature is really helpful in a number of scenarios. I can think of it. If you have a CPAP machine, and if the power goes out at night, it’s going to switch over to battery power almost instantaneously. So, not only do you have a powerful AC port, you have a whole array of DC ports.
There are four USB ports, and there are two 100 watts USB-C power delivery ports. So, you can run your laptops off of this thing. And on the back, there’s a 12 volts carport as well as two 12-volt Barrel ports.
I mentioned that the Delta II has 1 kWh of storage capacity. It also has an expansion port on the side which allows you to connect extra batteries to it. For example, you can get the Delta II Smart battery which gives you another 1 kWh of storage. So combined, you can have 2 kWh of storage capacity.
You can also add in the Delta Max Smart battery, and you can see this is much bigger, this can talk to the Delta II. And this has 2 kWh of storage capacity. If you have these two hooked up, you can get 3 kilowatts hour of storage capacity. And if you do get one of these extra batteries, there’s a compartment on the top and the connection cable.
2. The big upgrade in battery chemistry
Number 2 Why Choose EcoFlow Delta 2, Ecoflow upgraded the batteries inside of the Delta II to a chemistry called lithium iron phosphate, or LFP. In short, this is one of the safest battery chemistries out there. And it’s also one of the longest-lasting battery packs. It rated for 3,000 Cycles to a possible low of 80 percent capacity.
What that means is that if you start at 100% drain the battery to 0%, and then recharge it to 100% that is one full cycle. So, if you did this full cycle once a day, that 3000 cycle rating translates into over 8.2 years before the battery would get to 80% of its original capacity. And at that time, it doesn’t mean that this battery is going to quit working. It will just have less storage capacity than when you first got it.
And if you consider putting just a half cycle on this battery, that number is going to double to over 16 years. So, this is very long-lasting battery chemistry.
3. It is portable
When I weighed the Delta II, on my scale, it came in at 25 pounds and 9 ounces. At the top of the Delta II are two handles. So, it’s pretty easy to carry around. You can even do it with one hand, so toss it in your car, take it camping, take it to a friend’s house, or take it to a place where your extension cord doesn’t reach. It’s very portable.
4. You can go solar
With this thing and plugging in a solar panel, you might not have a full solar array on your roof. But with this power station, you can charge it with solar. So, once you invest in a solar panel, and you have this. The energy is basically free. So, I like to think that since I charged up mine with solar panels, I’m making YouTube videos, and fixing TVs with sunlight.
The Delta II has a max solar input of 500 watts, and since I don’t have a 500 watts panel, in order to get up to that wattage, I used a 330 watts panel and paralleled it with two 100 watts panels in series. So, with the late-day sun, I noticed a peak input of 449 Watts. I would easily expect it could pull 500 watts if the sun intensity was a little more.
Another thing that’s great about the Delta 2 is whether you’re charging by solar panels or the grid, you can use all of these outputs at the same time.
5. Lots of benefits and flexibility
For example, the Delta II has one of the fastest recharge times. For any power station in their promo materials, it says it can go from 0 to 80% in 50 minutes, or an hour and 20 minutes to go from 0 to 100%. So, I wanted to test that, and I started at 0% and the input started a little slow at first.
Maybe, because I had just drained the battery. But it caught up quickly, and it ended up taking just under 52 minutes to get to 80 percent. And then charging all the way, it took one hour and 21 minutes to get up to 100. Either way still has lightning-fast charging time.
Another big upgrade for the Delta II is that it can talk to the smartphone app through Bluetooth, and Wireless now. Notice, it doesn’t have a button for Wi-Fi pairing, and that’s because you hook it up through Bluetooth. I just turned on the Ecoflow app, and I don’t know if you can see this immediately it popped up and said new unit found.
So, I just have to click add, and it will add it to my list. Now, that I’m in the app, I can talk to this over Bluetooth. I can connect it to Wi-Fi, I can check on the firmware, I can control all kinds of things whether I’m right nearby, or I’m on the other side of the world.
Another benefit of the addition of this expansion port is not only you can have extra storage capacity. You can also charge through this port if you have the Ecoflow smart generator, and you may not have the generator. But at least, if you have the Delta II, you have the ability to add it on later. In any case, if you’re curious whether the Ecoflow fuel generator can charge the Delta 2 or Delta Max Smart batteries directly.
